Admissions

We are looking for families who share our core values: trust in the child, genuine interest in bilingual education, and a desire to be part of a small but vibrant community. Our admissions process is designed as a mutual introduction — not an assessment or examination.

How Admission Process Works

We accept children throughout the academic year. The busiest intake period is January through March, when we welcome new children to complement our existing cohorts.

We do not hold open days for large groups. Instead, we meet with prospective families individually and give each family our full attention. Many parents take advantage of a complimentary trial morning, during which their child can experience the kindergarten first-hand — making the decision process considerably easier. Frequently Asked Questions

From what age can I enrol my child?

We accept children from the age of two and a half years.

How does the settling-in period work?

The transition to kindergarten is tailored individually to each child and family. Parents are welcome to stay with their child in the classroom during the initial mornings — joining them for free play and breakfast. Most parents leave at the start of the morning circle at 09:00. We agree on each step day by day, ensuring that both children and parents feel comfortable throughout the process, while minimising disruption to the group's daily routine.

What is the balance between Czech and English?

Czech and English flow naturally throughout the entire day. We have two native English-speaking educators — one based on the upper floor and one on the lower floor — who are full members of the teaching team working full-time. Morning lessons alternate between Czech and English.

Which primary schools do Zeměkoule graduates typically attend?

The most common destination is ZŠ Compass, followed by ZŠ Nový Porg, ZŠ Kunratice, and a diverse range of others including Open Gate, ZŠ Eliáš, ZŠ Dolní Břežany, and PBIS schools. Feedback from parents consistently confirms that children are very well prepared for school entry — and at several schools they have performed outstandingly in competitive intake processes. Further details are available in our School Readiness section.

Can I increase my child's attendance during the year if I initially choose two or three days per week?

Each academic year is different. In some years, demand for places is so high that if you select a two-day schedule, the remaining days are offered to other families, making an in-year increase impossible due to capacity constraints. In other years, spaces remain available, and an increase is possible. As a general rule, we recommend choosing the attendance pattern that best matches your needs for the full academic year.

Does the kindergarten operate during school holidays?

Zeměkoule does not offer holiday care. During some summer periods, we allow external organisations to run day-camp programmes on our grounds. These are offered primarily to our own families, who make enthusiastic use of them. We also keep families informed about other popular day-camp options in the area.
